ABOUT ME

About Me

Hi, I'm Kirsty!

I’m a qualified Person-Centred counsellor. From time-to-time we can all struggle with life’s difficulties. It’s my job to listen to you with warmth and care. I work with you at whatever pace you choose and feel comfortable with. I aim to provide a safe space where you can to talk about your life circumstances, thoughts and feelings. I will meet you where you are at in life and empower you to go where you want to be.

I started my journey to become a counsellor in 2013 at Doncaster College and qualified in 2017. I completed my studies with two placements, one at a Carers Centre and the other at a Parent/Carers Forum. Once qualified I stayed on with the Parent/Carers Forum to become their Counselling Coordinator. In my time there I worked with a wonderful team of counsellors and developed a children and young person counselling service, as well as a specialist post diagnostic counselling service for newly diagnosed autistic and ADHD adults. As much as I loved my time at the Parent/Carers Forum, I felt it was time for a new chapter to my life and transitioned to my online private practice in 2023.

I’m a believer in that clients need different things at different times. I undertake continual professional and personal development (CPD), to ensure my skillset is always up to date and that I am aware of the latest thinking in the field. This means I can offer clients a refreshed and wider spectrum of potential strategies to work with. I’m happy to supply a full list of all CPD, however below is a list of recent CPD:

  • ADHD & Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria Workshop
  • The Psychology of Fetish and Kink
  • ADHD & Productivity
  • ADHD & Hormones Workshop
  • Neurodivergent Wellbeing Training
  • Other than Myself: Diversity Conference
  • Living & Working with Neurodivergence: Mental Health & Wellbeing
  • Black Identities + White Therapies - Working with Race, Ethnicity and Culture in and Outside the Therapy Room
  • Certificate in Online and Telephone Counselling
  • Coercive and Controlling Behaviour Training
  • PAPYRUS SP-EAJ Training: Suicide Prevention Explore, Ask, Keep Safe
  • Relational Depth in Counselling and Psychotherapy

In my professional and personal experience, counselling is usually most helpful when you feel comfortable with your counsellor. For that to happen most people need to know a little bit about their counsellor to humanise them. I have complied a one-page profile which you can read here, if you would like to. However, a short descriptor I give about myself is; I’m a Neuroqueer counsellor that loves Halloween, books and boardgames. I’m also the servant to a cat and the waterer of 18 plants.
